The European Environment Agency (www.eea.europa.eu) is the agency of the European Union which provides independent information on the environment. Based on Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen I worked for them as a designer for eight months.
The agency is a major information source for those involved in developing, adopting, implementing and evaluating environmental policy, and also the general public.
The agency creates print publications on the environment for politicians in Brussels and the general public. They have a large website and also communicate through social media.
These designs were a presentation for use as report covers, illustrations and social media content use.
Report cover design
The Report cover above. Taking pie charts to the beach. (there are pie charts in the report). Those shades of green and blue are the corporate colours of the agency.
Social media advertising
The European bathing water quality report is an annual report, and one of their most popular. This design was for social media. Effectively for the general public element of their audience – as opposed to the EU diplomats and policy makers. The illustration combined the pie chart graphs that were in the report, together with the beach. Warm and friendly, with a joke, but still directing to the same quality and serious report. The illustration and the following could also have been used as front covers.
The blue and green colours in the beach ball and the sun lounger, are the EEA’s corporate colours. I was connecting the Agency, the report’s authors, to the beach. The subject matter of the report. None of the designs were used.
